FORT COLLINS BOARD OF REALTORS®
POLICY STATEMENT REGARDING
CITY COUNCIL ACTION ON IGA's
PREPARATORY TO FURTHER DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED
REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
- The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® urges the City Council to continue to be involved in the regional process to develop an RTA proposal to be presented to the voters of Fort Collins.
- In the recent past, Community leaders have trusted the voters of Fort Collins to understand and decide on such issues as open space, transportation and other infrastructure needs of the city. They have trusted the voters to select the leaders they wish to follow. They must trust the voters to learn and weigh and understand the transportation and transit issues that Fort Collins will be facing in the future.
- It is essential that the public receive adequate information and subsequently be invited to give public comment and feedback on the proposed RTA. Our Council’s continued involvement will allow this to occur.
- The Regional Transportation Authority proposal is one of the most important and far-reaching issues facing our community today.
- It is a key principle in our constitution that voters decide tax issues.
- While the Regional Transportation Authority Task Force, with the support of Fort Collins leadership, has reached out to residents in its own process, the Fort Collins Council has not initiated a process to ensure that citizens and residents are informed and knowledgeable about transportation challenges ahead for our city and the surrounding region or about the options to resolve those challenges.
* Inter-governmental Agreements to be made between the counties and cities which will constitute the Regional Transportation Authority.
