Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® position regarding the proposed Property and Building Maintenance Standards.

Our position is three-fold:

The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® supports changes to the current codes in order to address the most egregious, blighted and unsafe properties. This is not only important for the residents who reside near these properties, but it also addresses the need to provide a better living community enjoyed by our citizens.

The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® opposes any legislation which disregards the rights of the property owner, the rights of Home Owners Associations’ to enforce their regulations and the rights of those who are unable to meet the expenses required to maintain their home.

The City of Fort Collins should not be in the business of establishing a "city-wide HOA", but instead should offer better solutions through community involvement, grants and changes to the existing code without interfering with the homeowners’ property rights.
